Let people add their own tags
The site already has some good tags on it that you can use to describe a question but it should be possible for any user to add their own tag.

Appearance and menu hierarchy
The appearance of the website is nice and clean. Some photographs of
Univerisity campus, young students presenting conference
posters/talks, graduation ceremonies etc. would make it more appealing
and will make the objective of the website more clear. It took me some time to get used to the menu hierarchy. That's because
the site, after I select my field, opens in "Get Answers" tab, with
specific topics in the menu on left. These topics seem to be more
related to the "Expert Advice" rather and "Get Answers" section.
What if someone want to ask a question that doesn't fit in one… more15 votes -

enhanced profiles - links to online presence, etc.
In their profile people should be able to add links to their blog, their ePortfolio, social network site, etc, page on their grad program's website, etc.

You can now link your GradShare account to Facebook and you can edit your profile to include information about your research interest or other relevant websites.

RSS feeds of different topics or tracked questions
I would like to be able to read new questions (either all, or by topic) or tracked questions through an Atom or RSS feed, because otherwise I might forget to come back to this site to answer questions! Or, if not possible, maybe a daily email summary of things I am tracking.

I would like a way to view all unanswered questions among all sections (e.g. research, teaching, etc
I don't ask many questions, but I really enjoy answering them. It would be nice if there were some way to view all unanswered questions instead of having to move between sections. A bonus would be a user set threshold (e.g. all with fewer than 2 or 3 answers); generally I accept that if a question has x number of answers that the question has a thorough and balanced feedback but below a certain threshold, I try to give my 2 cents.

One way to view the recent questions is to use the GradShare widget. You can find it at http://www.gradshare.com/widget.html
Add it to iGoogle, Netvibes, or any widget service to get regular updates

Please don't email passwords in clear text
The registration email currently sends passwords back in the clear when asking the user to confirm their email address. That is a dangerous practice.

While the GradShare community is in it’s early stages, we’d like to encourage discussion with the community at-large. We are evaluating new features for creating your own communities for future updates. Let us know if this feature is important to you by voting for this idea.

Let users search other users.
It would be great if we could actually see who else was using, perhaps how many users were logged in at a given time, and especially who else was registered within our discipline or research areas.

Good idea, we’ll add a form to submit your department if it isn’t listed.
